Cyber Bullying Quizzes

Today we have two quizzes which explore different sides of the cyber bullying issue. These may be good jumping off points for discussions with kids and teens about what behaviors are inappropriate online. When they should talk to an adult about what they are experiencing or when they should think twice about what they are about to do.

WiredSafety LogoAre Your a Cyber Bully?

Often time the victims of bullying are also bullies themselves. This quiz from STOPCyberbullying.org gives a simple activity and asks how often you have done it. For example, have you ever signed on using someone else’s screen name? There is a printable version of the quiz which you can download.

Have You Been Cyber Bullied?

This kid friendly online quiz from WiredKids.org will ask you simple questions about what has happened to you online. Take the Dealing with Cyber Bullying Quiz.

Cyber Bullying Research Study

Review this interesting research from the Pew Research Center on how teens are using technology, what technology most teens are using, and what their main concerns are.
Overall, the study found that more teens experience bullying at school than online.
Discussion Topic: Cell phones are a common form of technology most teens have access to but are they overlooked when discussing cyber bullying?

Practical Solutions to Bullying

Area clinical psychologist Susan Daniel will discuss practical techniques teachers and parents can use to help children and teens with bullying.  Dr. Daniel will also discuss measures parents and teachers can take to decrease the likelihood that children will be a target of bullying as well as ways to decrease the impact of bullying.

Practical Solution to Bullying will be presented on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at the Herndon Branch Library.

How to Get your Kids off the Bully Radar

Parents do you want to know how to keep student below the bully radar? The Orange County Library System will host  local mental health counselor and bullying expert Jim West who will share tips on how to prepare your kids for late elementary school, middle school and high school.

This event will take place on Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m., at the Orlando Public Library.

West is a child, adolescent and family expert who has appeared on local and national TV/radio including the Daily Buzz, Fox 35, Channel 13, NBC and more.  He is president of Total Life Counseling Center and holds a master’s degree in counseling from Liberty University.

Puppet Shows with a Positive Message

Since 1985 MicheLee Puppets have given more than 1.6 million children and youth the tools to face lives challenges and the motivation to make meaningful contributions to society. They will present puppets shows for children from preschool through elementary school related to the theme of bullying at several library locations throughout the month of March.

A Good Day for Pancake
Winter Garden Branch: Monday, March 7, 10:30 a.m.
Southeast Branch: Wednesday, March 9, 1 p.m.
Alafaya Branch: Monday, March 28, 11 a.m.

Open your heart to Pancake Pig. When a friend is repeatedly bullied at school, Pancake Pig doesn’t know what to do. He has to learn that bystanders have a responsibility to report bullying. BSI: Bully Scene Investigators

Eatonville Branch: Tuesday, March 1, 1:15 p.m.
Orlando Public Library: Thursday, March 3, 10:30 a.m.
West Oaks Branch: Tuesday, March 22, 10:30 a.m.

The elite BSI investigative team will train students on bully prevention techniques.  The BSI Agents, along with a hilarious cast of puppet characters, will give students the edge they need to identify bullying behaviors, protect themselves from bullies, and defend others from bullies by becoming responsible bystanders.  Students will have fun interacting throughout training to gain coveted BSI Agent Status and learn the official BSI handshake. March Against Bullying

Starting in March, the library system will kick off a program series called March Against Bullying. This community campaign is designed to help children, teens, parents and teachers deals with the bullying which unfortunately has become rampant in our schools.

Programs will be offered at multiple locations including a very special Second Saturday featuring bullying expert and mental health counselor Jim West. On March 12 at 2 p.m. at the Orlando Public Library, West will present How to Keep Your Child Below the Bully Radar. Mark your calendar and save the date. If you have children, this is surely a program you won’t want to miss!

The Orange County Library System has created a place for people to share their experiences through the creation of art work, poetry, music, videos, and short stories. We are asking our community to contribute their work related to a specific theme. Starting in March, we are focusing on bullying and the experience of being bullied.

This place is called “Create” and everyone is welcome to share their work and enjoy the work of others.

CREATE
We hope that you will be inspired to create art work related to the monthly theme. All forms of expression are welcome.

Posting your work to Create is simple. Select a category which best fits your work of art and follow the directions for posting a comment which contains the work that you would like to share.

COMMENT
Everyone enjoys having their music heard, videos viewed, and stories read. If you find a piece of art moving, post a comment of encouragement. You can post your comments anonymously and let your words speak for themselves.
